Erykah Badu Tickets – Undressing On Elm Street For Window Seat

Elm Street in Dallas Texas was as mundane as any other avenue. It was after all…just a street in a busy city. That is until November 22, 1963 when President Kennedy was caught in the crosshairs of Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle as his motorcade cruised down Elm. Ever since Kennedy's assassination, the street (which is marked with an "X" where the president was gunned down) and the surrounding areas - the old book depository and the infamous grassy knoll -  have become hot tourist attractions for conspiracy theorists and curious travelers. Turns out those very same visitors were in for another surprise when singer Erykah Badu used the location as the backdrop for her new "Window Seat" video.

Badu, seeing an opportunity to do something unconventional, strolls along Elm Street, gradually shedding her layers to the shock of wide-eyed onlookers (if only we could hear their gasps) until she is completely naked at which point a shot is heard and she collapses directly on the grassy knoll, not far from where Kennedy was shot. Instead of the trickling of blood, animated blue ink that spells out "groupthink" flows from underneath Badu's head.

She spoke about the meaning behind the shoot to MTV.com, saying, "They who play it safe, are quick to assassinate what they don't understand. They move in packs, ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another. They feel more comfortable in groups, less guilt to swallow. They are us. This is what we have become, afraid to respect the individual." The "Window Seat" video has stirred up a lot of controversy as well as praise. Many people are shunning her public nudity, while others highlight it as a standout example of performance art. It seems that there's hardly any middle ground. Badu notes on her Twitter account: "We only had one shot to get it right. We didn't plan the shot. Coodie and I just went raw dog. Too busy lookin for cops and being petrified." Indeed the Dallas police department was not amused and a City Hall spokesperson made a public statement about the video noting that Dallas isn't a fan of guerilla filming. Whatever you think of Badu's video, it would be hard to say that she wasn't tapping into her creative side.

Her first album, Baduizm appeared in early 1997, buoyed by the hit single "On & On," which reached the number one spot on the Billboard charts. She followed with several other successful albums including Mama's Gun and New Amerykah, Pt. 1: 4th World Tour, and most recently New Amerykah Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh.
